GRAFTING AWAY IN OLD ORCHARD COUNTRY
Join MORP in learning the valuable skill of grafting and take home four heritage apple trees (grafted by you) at the Animas Valley Grange on SAT, March 30 from 10am to noon. Yes, you may observe for free, but we think you will have a much better experience by “getting your hands dirty”.
A minimum of 10 participants are required and a maximum of 20 allowed – so please preregister early to assure your place in the workshop (although you can register at event first come, first serve); let us know what workshop(s) you plan to attend by emailing MORP at firstname.lastname@example.org; you can also preregister AND pre-pay at the Donate Button at our website – just write a note in the comment line or send us an email as to which workshop(s) you paid for. Cost is $35 for current MORP members; $45 otherwise; you may become a member or renew your membership at the same time as paying for class. Send us an email to learn if your annual membership is current.
MORP provides all the needed supplies including scion. However, you may bring your own scion if you have a favorite tree you would like to graft. Here is a link that explains how to collect scion. Store in fridge or cool place until use, but NOT with fruit as outgassing may damage the scion.
Some time ago, Jude slowly taught himself how to graft by carefully studying the pages out of the old, classic book by Downing – written in the year 1849 (our edition). He would look at the page, make a cut, look at the page, make a cut, and repeat. You too could learn to graft this way, but would you not rather attend a Hands-on Grafting Workshop? Join us!
