A New Kind of Spin Class
Applesauce Making Fundraiser
We had a strong force of peelers right at 9:00 a.m. And peel and peel and PEEL is what they did. Wow.
Thanks to Nina's friend, Mark, for pitching in...
And for Joel and his daughter, Becca, showing up and with a bottle of Chokecherry "tipple" no less. That lifted everyone's spirits! They peeled more than a few apples too, to earn their mid-day meal.
And here's Joyce taking a well deserved break, just sitting down to the fare served for the day in a nice sunny spot. She was the cornerstone of manning the peelers, ensconced at the corner of the table throughout! ALL of our legs were aching by day's end.
Greg helped out Ken, manning all the burners...much to keep track of.
And of course Phil, the bloodhound, was ever so helpful...
Having WAY too much fun outside!
Taste testing and making the apple sauce "just right"...
Oh...and then there was that melty incident!
I don't think I've seen Dusty have so much fun washing dishes...
...thanks to David. With Bryan pitching in too after a long day of peeling, and tasting, and stirring, and tasting, and...well... what a great cleanup crew. Everyone pitched in!
As the shadows grew longer, we were becoming gleeful, perhaps because the end was near?
Nina kept a level head however and was the guiding saucer through the whole, long day, keeping us all on task.
There she is, surrounded by hooligans! (But happy hooligans.)
Lots and lots of apples...
At the end of the day the MORP crew skinned their way through 9 crates of apples which gleaned 75 quarts of apple sauce including Dusty's lone "brandied" jar. By my calculations, we should be good for another 250 quarts with what's left in the walk-in. Ready?
What a fun, industrious day. Thanks to each and every one of you!
